About DMF

District Mineral Foundations are statutory entities set up by State Governments under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, as amended in 2015. These bodies focus on the welfare of communities impacted by mining in specified districts.
Establishment: DMFs are established as non-profit trusts by State Governments to operate in areas affected by mining activities.
Composition and Functions: The structure and role of DMFs are determined by the State Governments, drawing from legal frameworks such as the Indian Constitution's provisions and relevant acts. DMFs receive funds from mining leaseholders, who contribute a portion of their royalties. These funds are directed toward development initiatives for communities impacted by mining.
PMKKKY Scheme: DMFs implement the Pradhan Mantri KhanijKshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY), which focuses on reducing the adverse impacts of mining, supporting environmental and social well-being, and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for affected populations.
